With its spacious living areas and private balconies, Town Lantana isn’t a bad place to be holed up for a
while. But, of course, exercise and fresh air are more important now than ever. Here we explore some of the green spaces close by, which are still open to the public, and where you can stretch your legs, relax and unwind. Not forgetting that Town Lantana itself offers a 30,000 square feet expanse of green space.
Lantana Nature Reserve
Whether it’s a tranquil wander first thing in the morning, or a post-lunch promenade, Lantana Nature Reserve allows you to lose yourself amongst the red mangroves, cabbage palms and gumbo limbos – and to be at one with nature. The reserve is a hotspot for local wildlife; listen out for warblers in the trees, and seek out turtles in the water. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to spot a Bahama mockingbird or even the rare
red-legged thrush. Whatever you witness on your visit, Lantana Nature Reserve is a chance to escape the realities of everyday life right now, and get a taste of the immense natural beauty surrounding this part of Florida.
A 10-minute drive from the Town Lantana apartments, Mangrove Park offers boardwalk strolls through a forest of racoon-inhabited mangroves. As the aluminum boardwalk elevates half-way through the walk, you can gaze across the intercoastal waterway with its rock walls, where snook live. See if you can make out the turtles – or even alligators – which ply these waters – and be poised with your phone, ready to capture one of nature’s wonders.
John Prince Park
Closer to home is John Prince Park – open from sunrise to sunset – and boasting a slew of walking and jogging trails, plus a handful of picturesque lakes. Take the half-mile custard apple trail, and scan the wetlands for ospreys, marsh rabbits, herons and egrets. There’s a special lakeside path for those on two wheels, and if your four-legged friend needs to be let loose, take them to the Lake Woof dog park. John Prince Park is the kind of green space that keeps on giving; try something new each time you visit.
On those days when you don’t much feel like leaving home, remember that Town Lantana has 30,000 square feet of green space for residents to enjoy. Do your morning meditation in one of the two meticulously landscaped garden-style parks. Sit in the shade of a palm with a good read, occasionally looking up, to drink in Town Lantana’s tasteful Bermuda-style architecture. Or relax out on your private balcony with a glass of something sparkling – admiring the vista of nearby sparkling lakes.
